How can I cope with stress in an examination hall? I am a NEET aspirant.
Tips To Keep Your Cool in The Exam Hall
- Wake up early so that you do not need to rush through having breakfast and getting ready. Also, ensure that you eat a healthy breakfast. It gets your system running and will boost you through the exam.
- Check the venue and time of the exam to make sure that you have not confused the day/time/venue.
- Head to the exam with plenty of time. A lot of unexpected events can happen on your way there and you do not want to be late!, and this will lead to stress and anxiety during exam.
- Visualize Success
It is said that the first step to success is to believe in yourself. Unfortunately in this competitive environment the students are not able to focus on their strength, so their minds are always filled with negative thoughts. Just think of yourself as writing the exam and knowing the answers. When you visualize yourself as being successful, you are more likely to succeed. But do not just visualize studying – you actually have to do it!
- If there are people around who are panicking, avoid them. They are not doing you any favour!
- Avoid the use of nicotine and over usage of caffeine
It is believed that coffee energizes and helps you stay up longer to study. But beware. Caffeine in excess would eventually slow you down.
- Go to the toilet before the exam starts. Exams can be quite long and there is no time to waste.
- Last minute cramming won’t help. In fact, you will forget what you remember if you do so.
- Fill up the credential columns first. You would not believe how many people have forgotten to do it!
- Start answering the questions that you feel most confident about. There is no need to answer the questions in order, as long as you label them correctly.
- If your brain freezes, just start writing anything and you will soon start remembering more details.
- Take a breather if you panic. You might as well relax for 5 minutes than spend the next half hour panicking and forgetting what you studied.
- Don’t spend more time than you planned on a particular section/question or you might run out of time to answer other questions and gain those extra marks! Also, leave any questions that you are unsure about for the end.
- Use every minute of the exam and if you have time left, review your answers before handing back the paper.
- Stay calm, you have done your homework and have nothing to fear!
Remember, trust yourself the next time you get bogged down because someone is panicking around you and telling you things you might not be aware of. You have nothing to fear, if you have put effort into your studies. So, don’t panic the next time someone comes and tells you something you don’t know. There is a good chance even they don’t know what they might be talking about.
Thank you.
